ITEM 101. Casting on and off. Casting on and off of the knitting machine is a basic function that must be understood in order to knit anything on the machine. While learning to cast on and off, we will review the features of a knitting machine.. Hands-on class. Class size: 2 to 5 students. ITEM 102. Reading a Machine Knit Pattern. All machine knit patterns written in books or magazine use some type of knitting shorthand. Understanding the terminology and how it relates to the knitting machine is what we will go over in this class. Hands-on class. Class size: 2 to 5 students. ITEM 103. Short row, Increasing and Decreasing. In order to make a garment knowing how to increase, decrease and short row is important. This class will explore the many options associated with increasing, decreasing and short row on the knitting machine. Hands-on class. Class size: 2 to 5 students. ITEM 104. The Gauge Swatch. In this class we will work with mystery yarns to determine its gauge on the knitting machine. How to select a yarn for the knitting machine and then determining gauge its gauge is the first step in knitting a garment. Once the number of stitches and rows per inch of a yarn is known for a particular machine a garment can be knitted. Hands-on class. Class size: 2 to 5 students. ITEM 105. Exploring Knit Design, 101. Ever want to create knitwear that can compete with the top designers either for sale, gifts or yourself? This class will cover the basics of knitwear design from conception to the completed design. Yarn, fabric textures, fabric graphic design, silhouette, fit and finishing will all be explored. Computer software will be used to explore possible silhouette and fit choices. Lecture class. Class size: 2 to 5 students. Class length. 2 hours, Cost: $35.
Intermediate Beginner. Students should own a knitting machine and know how to select a yarn for their machine, cast on and off, increase and decrease, short row and knit a gauge swatch.
PATTERN DESIGN WITH A COMPUTER.
ITEM 106. Design-A-Knit 7 and 8, Beginners class-Start with the Standard Garment Styler module. Do you have trouble finding knitting patterns that fit you properly? Come learn how Design-A-Knit can help you make flattering, custom fitted knitwear. This class includes a quick overview of the four modules of DAK8 (Dak 7 users can come to this class as well). We will spend the majority of the class designing garments in Standard Garment styler – pullover, cardigan, short sleeve shirt and a skirt. As the garments are designed, we will show you how to go from Standard garment styler to the Interactive Knitting and knit your garment. Lecture class. Class size, 2 – unlimited. Class length. 1 hour. Cost. $35. A laptop with DAK, a knitted swatch and tape measure useful but not necessary for this class. But having your laptop will allow you to take your own designs home.
CLASS 107. Design-A-Knit 7 and 8, Intermediate Class – Combines the Standard Garment Styler module with the Stitch Designer module DAK 8 (7 users can come to this class as well). Learn how to create a garment shape in Standard Garment Styler, draw your own stitch pattern in Stitch Designer and then combine the two. Clip art and your own pictures can be imported into DAK and used to create one of a kind knits or you can be creative and draw your own stitch pattern. Lecture class. Class size, 2 – unlimited. Class length. 1 hour. Cost. $35. A laptop with DAK is needed.
ITEM 108. Garment Designer. Using Garment Designer software anyone can create a cardigan their size plus understand the instructions generated by the program. ITEM 109. Pattern Design 101. Now that you know how to cast on, cast off, increase and decrease on the knitting machine, and most importantly make a gauge swatch, are you ready for a more challenging project? How about writing the machine knitting instructions for creating a baby garment pattern that includes sleeves using a pattern from a book or magazine schematic? Generating an accurate set of knitting instructions is crucial to the success of any garment. Lecture class. Class size 2 to 5 students. Class length. 3 hours, Supplies needed for class: regular black lead pencil, color pencils, easer, measuring tape, and calculator. Pattern paper and gauge swatch will be provided. Cost: $60.

GARMENT CONSTRUCTION.
ITEM 112. The Muslin. Whether a pattern is generated by a computer, hand drawing or an off-the-shelf commercial pattern a muslin is needed to guarantee the fit of a garment. In this class we will create a cardigan muslin and check its fit then transfer any changes to our original pattern and update our knitting machine instructions. Class size, 1 to 5 students. Class length. 4 hours, Supplies needed for class: regular black lead pencil, color pencils, eraser, measuring tape, calculator, hand needle, thread, beeswax or sewing machine (with supplies normally associated with a sewing machine). Pattern paper, gauge swatch, and muslin cloth will be provided. Cost: $100.
ITEM 113. Machine Knitting Garment Finishing Techniques. Learn many of the techniques used to finish machine knitted garments. These will include, how to assemble a garment, knit bands, attach bands, knit buttonholes in the band, plus many more finishing techniques. Class size, 1 to 5 students. Class length. 4 hours. Knitting machine and yarn will be provided. Cost $100.
ITEM 114. Double Bed Knitting. Learn how to cast on, off, short row, and knit using a double bed knitting machine. A book of double bed samples will be created in this class. Class size, 2 to 5 students. Class length. 4 hours. Knitting machine and yarn will be provided. Cost $125.
ITEM 115. Baby Sweater. Need a baby gift. In this private lesson class you will learn to construct a baby sweater from start to completion using a computer generate pattern. Each of the four lessons will concentrate on a different aspect of garment construction. Perquisites: Must have taken Pattern Design 101 or 102 or prove to the instructor’s satisfaction a skill level equivalent to Pattern Design 101 or 102. Class size 1 to 5 students. Class length 2 hours per lesson. Homework assignments are an integral part of this class. In order to proceed to the next lesson, the homework assignment must be completed, i.e. no homework completed, no moving on to the next lesson. Students have 8 weeks to complete the four lessons. No exceptions to the time frame. When a class contains more than one student, the meeting time will be by consensus. Cost: $200. Students are required to purchase their own supplies.
